My son absolutely LOVES to help me in the kitchen cooking and baking! I love to make almost anything a lesson for life and I have found a company that had the same idea...but did something about it to help other parents!
Spoonful of Math is a subscription based program where kids get into the kitchen to learn math, using a unique recipe card that doubles as a math flashcard. So, kids make the recipe on one side that directly relates to the math flashcard on the back. The cards are made specifically for kids ages 2-11 and are perfect for the kid who loves math, doesn't "get" math or anywhere in between!
Their "Recipe-n-a-Flashcards" mix the fun of cooking with the teaching of math! Have you ever made a "Cylinder Sundae?" What better way to learn about the properties of a cylinder than through the process of preparing a delectable dessert. So, your child can whip up a delicious dish...all while mastering a new math skill! And, each skill found on a Recipe-n-a-flashcard can be further practiced by simply visiting their website and printing out matching worksheets!
Each lesson is aligned with the National Math standards, so they are a great tool to help your child prepare for the classroom and for standardized testing!
- Recipe-n-a-Flashcard Ring (to hold your cards)
- 2 Recipe-n-a-Flashcards--Super Shape Soup & Cylinder Sundae (teaching properties of geometric solids)
- Fabric Potholder
- Measuring Spoons & Cups
- Wooden Spoon
My OpinionAs you can see above, my son LOVED the Spoonful of Math products that were sent to us! The apron fit him perfectly (the first one that has ever fit him!) and the spoons, measuring cups, and pot holder were just his size! He was thrilled because he LOVES helping me in the kitchen or cooking in his own play kitchen!
I was thrilled because I found an easy way to talk to my son about math WHILE cooking! I love to multi-task and teach my son new lessons! Spoonful of Math is designed just for that!
The recipes are fun and easy to make for almost any age (especially 2-11) and when not cooking for real, my son loves to use the items in his play kitchen to pretend!
If you are looking for an easy way to incorporate math into your day or help a struggling child with their math skills, I definitely recommend Spoonful of Math! Your children will love helping out in the kitchen and they won't even know they are learning valuable math lessons at the same time! :) Plus, the recipes taste pretty good too! :)
Buy It: You can purchase the Recipe-n-a-Flashcards kit for $15.95 on the Spoonful of Math website.
