Lilly Gray Corbett has just graduated from medical school and decided to accept an internship in the coal camp of Skip Rock, Kentucky. Her beau, Paul, is doing his residency in Boston and can't understand why Lilly would choose to work in a backwater town. But having grown up in the mountains, Lilly is drawn to the stubborn, superstitious people she encounters in Skip Rock—a town where people live hard and die harder and where women know their place. Lilly soon learns she has a lot to overcome, but after saving the life of a young miner, she begins to earn the residents' trust.
As Lilly becomes torn between joining Paul in Boston and her love for the people of Skip Rock, she crosses paths with a handsome miner—one who seems oddly familiar. Her attraction for him grows, even as she wrestles with her feelings and wonders what he's hiding.
My OpinionI loved this book because it was medical based and I am in the medical field! I am always drawn to medical fiction books because I really relate to the characters!
With that said, I LOVED Skip Rock Shallows because I really related to Lilly! I have lived in small towns my whole life so I related to her background and her passion for helping people. I have also gone through gaining trust from people as a result of being a woman in the medical field. She must make decisions about her passion for medicine or a man...and I felt her pain and indecision!
This book was also about forgiveness and it gave a great lesson for all our lives! God forgives us for the unending sins we do every day...we should do the same for our fellow human!
Overall, this book was really well written and I loved the story line and romance aspect! I would definitely recommend it to all women who love a historical romance fiction book or who are in the medical field and have gone through struggles to stand apart as an efficient and capable woman in the medical field!
