Book Review: Sweet Sanctuary

About Sweet Sanctuary:
A Story of Hope and Love Set Against the Backdrop of World War II

Lydia Eldredge longs to provide sanctuary for her young son, Nicky. But a constant threat comes from Nicky's drug-addicted father, who wants the boy and seems willing to do whatever it takes to get him.

Dr. Micah Hatcher faithfully serves the immigrant population of Queens, New York. But under cover of darkness, he has a secret mission that challenges everything he thought he wanted out of life.

When Lydia and Micah's paths cross, they are suddenly wrapped up in each other's callings. Together, they seek a refuge of safety-for Nicky, for themselves, and for the needy people God puts into their lives. Amid turmoil and discord, can hope and love prevail?

My Opinion
This book is set in one of absolute favorite book settings - World War II! It was such a time of sacrifice, love, and life changing history and I love imagining what life was like back then through fiction books set in that time period!

Sweet Sanctuary was a very unique story line around two people with deep secrets - one of them a single mother which was very frowned upon at that time! It was very interesting to grow with them and watch their love and lives intertwine!

I loved the descriptions of life at that time - in New York, especially with the immigrants fleeing from Europe and Hitler's control!

I also love how God and the character's faiths are constantly throughout the book and prayer is a major theme! It was a great reminder to pray in times of trouble, indecision, and heartache as I experience my own life troubles!

This book was beautifully written as Kim Vogel Sawyer's book always are and I definitely recommend this book for all historical fiction book lovers, especially ones that love World War II history like I do!
